Srinagar: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday staged a massive protest in Srinagar against Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma’s remarks on the martyrs of July 13, 1931.
Led by PDP leader Iltija Mufti and General Secretary Khurshid Alam, along with other senior leaders and party workers, the protesters marched through the city, condemning Sharma’s statement in the Assembly, which they termed ‘derogatory and disrespectful’ to Kashmir’s history.
Speaking at the protest, Iltija Mufti accused the BJP of distorting historical facts and attempting to erase Kashmir’s legacy of sacrifice. She reiterated that July 13 is a day of remembrance for those who laid down their lives fighting oppression.
The protest comes after Sharma dismissed the July 13 martyrs as “traitors,” a remark that has sparked widespread outrage among regional political parties. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also criticised Sharma, calling his comments an insult to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP has demanded an official apology from Sharma and warned of intensified protests if corrective action is not taken.
