NC slams PDP, BJP after ‘assault’ on MLA Mehraj Malik inside JK assembly

AAP MLA Mehraj Malik inside JK Legislative Assmebly after he was alleegdly attacked by PDP and BJP members.

Srinagar: A storm of condemnation has followed the assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik inside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, with opposition parties accusing the BJP, PDP and its allies of stifling dissent through intimidation and violence.

National Conference (NC) leader and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq called the incident “a shameful violation of democratic norms,” stressing that if elected representatives are not safe within the Assembly, it reflects a serious institutional failure. “Strict action must be taken against all those involved in this attack, including the immediate filing of an FIR,” Sadiq demanded.

He further accused the BJP and its “B-Team” PDP of using aggression to silence criticism. “Their frustration over being exposed cannot justify such acts. The dignity of the House must not be compromised,” he said.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party also staged a protest outside the Assembly premises, demanding immediate action and security assurances for opposition legislators. Party workers raised slogans against the BJP, alleging that the attack on Malik was premeditated and politically motivated.

The incident, which took place during a session earlier this week, has sparked calls for a wider inquiry into the conduct within the House and the growing intolerance toward opposition voices in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
