A tragic helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River killed six people, including three children.
The victims were a Spanish family of five and their pilot, officials told international media.
The deceased included Siemens executives Agustín Escobar and Mercè Camprubí Montal, along with their children aged 4, 5, and 11.
Mayor Eric Adams extended condolences, and Siemens expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Spain’s Prime Minister and other leaders also conveyed their sympathies. The helicopter, operated by New York Helicopters, departed Manhattan at 2:59 PM and crashed just 18 minutes later, near the George Washington Bridge.
Eyewitnesses described seeing the helicopter fall upside down. Emergency responders reached the scene quickly, but all six occupants were declared dead either at the site or in hospital.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident involving the Bell 206 helicopter.
This marks yet another fatal tourist flight crash in the city’s history, following previous accidents in 2018 and 2009.
