Bongaon: Two local residents have been arrested for allegedly pasting a Pakistani national flag on the wall of a public washroom near Akaipur railway station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district in an apparent attempt to stir communal unrest, police said.
According to a statement by Bongaon Police, the flag was discovered last night on the washroom wall adjacent to the station, falling under the jurisdiction of Gopalnagar Police Station. A subsequent investigation identified the accused as Chandan Malakar (30) and Progyajit Mondal (45), both residents of the area.
Police said the duo, reportedly associated with a political party and a group called Sanatani Ekta Manch, confessed during interrogation. They had also planned to write inflammatory slogans like “Hindustan Murdabad” and “Pakistan Zindabad” to provoke tension in the area, the statement added.
A specific case has been registered and both accused are in custody. Further investigation is underway.
