Met Centre Srinagar issues advisory for flashfloods, landslides
Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has said moderate rain is prevailing at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, with isolated heavy to intense showers reported from parts of the Valley and Chenab Valley.
As per the nowcast issued at 1630 hrs, raining moderately at many places with isolated heavy/intense showers has been observed in Badgam, Kupwara, Baramulla, Ganderbal, parts of South Kashmir and Chenab Valley.
The weather office said the current spell of rain and thundershowers is likely to continue over many places during the next 3 to 5 hours, with brief intense heavy showers at a few places.
Issuing an advisory, the Met Centre warned that intense showers and thunderstorms over northwest and central parts of the Valley, Pir Panjal range, Chenab valley and plains of Jammu may generate localized flashfloods, mudslides and landslides.
It also said there are major chances of shooting stones and rockfalls at a few vulnerable areas of hilly districts of JK.
The department has advised people to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide prone areas in view of the inclement weather. (GNS)
