New Delhi: Portable modular medical units known as BHISHM cubes are being deployed at key hospitals such as AIIMS Jammu and SKIMS Srinagar under the government’s Aarogya Maitri initiative to strengthen medical preparedness amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, officials said on Friday.
The move follows Union Health Minister J P Nadda’s review of hospital readiness across the country in light of Operation Sindoor and the ongoing military conflict, sources added.
The BHISHM cubes—developed indigenously—are also being installed at other major institutions like AIIMS Rishikesh, Bilaspur, and Delhi.
According to Air Vice Marshal Dr Tanmoy Roy of HLL Lifecare, which oversees the deployment, operational training is also being provided at the respective centres. Two BHISHM cubes have already been deployed at AIIMS Jammu, with more on the way, PTI reported.
So far, around 35 such cubes have been stationed across India’s Institutes of National Importance (INIs).
Designed for rapid deployment, BHISHM cubes offer mobile emergency care during disasters or public health crises.
Each unit includes life-saving medical supplies and can treat up to 200 patients in diverse emergency scenarios.
