India on Wednesday strongly dismissed China’s latest move to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, calling it “baseless and absurd.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) made it clear that such actions will not change the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is, and will always be, an integral part of India.

“We have seen that China has again tried to assign new names to places in Arunachal Pradesh. We completely reject these efforts. Such tactics will not change the undeniable reality that the state is an inalienable part of India,” the MEA said in a statement.

This response came after Beijing published a list in 2024 giving 30 new names to places in Arunachal, a region over which China continues to make territorial claims.

Beijing has repeatedly released maps and names for places inside Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh, a move New Delhi sees as part of its broader strategy to assert false claims.
