New Delhi: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar had to make an emergency landing due to severe turbulence caused by a sudden hailstorm.
Among the 227 passengers onboard were five leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) — Nadimul Haque, Sagarika Ghose, Derek O’Brien, Mamata Thakur, and Manas Bhuiyan.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi revealed this information on X, adding that all five leaders are safe. She also commended the pilot for maintaining calm under difficult conditions and ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
The aircraft, operating as IndiGo flight 6E 2142 (registration VT-IMD), encountered bad weather en route to Srinagar and was declared an “Aircraft on Ground” (AOG) after landing. This status indicates that the plane requires inspection before it can be allowed to operate again.
The Airports Authority of India confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe. An official stated, “All aircrew and passengers are safe, and the aircraft has been declared AOG by the airline.”
IndiGo issued a statement confirming that the flight experienced a sudden hailstorm during the journey.
The airline said, “IndiGo flight 6E 2142 operating from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a sudden hailstorm en route. The flight and cabin crew followed established protocols, and the aircraft landed safely in Srinagar. The airport team attended to the customers after arrival, prioritising their wellbeing and comfort. The aircraft will be released after necessary inspection and maintenance.”
This incident has brought attention to the unpredictable weather conditions affecting flight operations in the Srinagar region.
