Sitapur: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former UP minister Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail on Tuesday after nearly two years.
Wearing his trademark white kurta-pyjama and black waistcoat, Khan left in a private car without speaking to the media. His son Adeeb, along with hundreds of SP workers and leaders, including Ruchi Vira and Anup Gupta, were present to receive him.
The district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, but large crowds of supporters still gathered near the jail, leading to traffic congestion and challans against several vehicles.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav welcomed Khan’s release, calling it “a moment of great joy” and promised that all “false cases” against him would be withdrawn once the party comes to power in UP.
