People didn’t vote for silence, says former CM, adding, speaking up for citizens and challenging unjust policies is a moral and political responsibility
Srinagar: As the Omar Abdullah-led government in Jammu and Kashmir marked its first year in power, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti issued a sharp reminder of the promises made to the people and the dangers of forgetting them.
In a statement shared on X, the PDP president said speaking up for citizens and challenging unjust policies should not be seen as confrontation. “It is a moral and political responsibility,” she wrote.
Mehbooba warned that if the government fails to honour the aspirations of the people, it could have “disastrous consequences for the future of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“The people did not vote for silence or submission,” she added. “They voted for a government that would stand for their rights, defend their identity, and challenge injustice.”
Her remarks come at a time when many in the region are voicing frustration over unemployment, governance gaps, and the sense that promises made during the elections remain unfulfilled.
