Poonch: LG Manoj Sinha on Friday said that the administration supported residents during periods of shelling from Pakistan, when several people were killed and many were injured. He said 13 families of the 14 people who died in the shelling were provided government jobs, and one child was given an assurance letter during the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah. He added that the requested SDRF assistance was also released.
Sinha said the government of India had provided Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh as financial support for house construction, but admitted the amount was not enough. “We knew a house could not be built with that money,” he said.
He said HRDS, an organisation working in the region, has taken up the responsibility of building houses for affected families. Sinha said he had requested Swamiji for support, after which the institution agreed to undertake the construction.
According to him, 133 houses identified by higher authorities will be constructed by HRDS, with an estimated cost of around Rs 10 lakh per house. He said the construction work will be completed within six months. (KNS)
