Cold wave tightens grip on Kashmir as Gulmarg, Leh freeze below minus 8°C

Srinagar: Cold conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with most parts of the Kashmir Valley recording subzero minimum temperatures, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Valley at minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Shopian at minus 5.6 degrees and Pahalgam at minus 4.8 degrees. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, the same as Srinagar airport, while Pulwama saw temperatures dip to minus 4.2 degrees. Other areas, including Awantipora, Budgam and Zethan Rafiabad, also remained below freezing.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were comparatively higher, though some higher reaches continued to witness cold conditions. Jammu recorded a minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius, while Jammu airport registered 11.1 degrees. Banihal and Bhaderwah recorded subzero temperatures at minus 1.3 degrees and minus 2.1 degrees, respectively. Rajouri recorded 1.6 degrees, while Batote and Doda settled at 2.1 degrees and 2.7 degrees.

Ladakh remained the coldest region, with Leh recording minus 9.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Kargil at minus 8.4 degrees and Nubra Valley at minus 7.5 degrees.

Data for some areas, including Kulgam, Ganderbal, Sonamarg, Samba and Poonch, was not available.
