Mamata files FIRs against ED over I-PAC raids

Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday filed complaints against the Enforcement Directorate over raids at the office of political consultancy firm I-PAC and the residence of its chief, Prateek Jain, in Kolkata. Based on her complaints, FIRs were registered by the Kolkata and Bidhannagar Police.

The complaints accuse unknown ED officials and CRPF personnel of criminal intimidation, theft and trespass, along with alleged violations of the IT Act. Police also registered a suo motu case and initiated a probe.

The Trinamool Congress has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking restraint on the alleged misuse of documents seized during the raids, claiming sensitive political data meant for upcoming elections was taken.

The ED, however, said the searches were linked to a money laundering probe into an alleged coal scam and accused Banerjee and state police of obstructing the investigation.

The agency has approached the High Court seeking transfer of the case to the CBI.
