Kolkata: In Kolkata, violence reportedly broke out after ABVP activists allegedly attacked university students near the College Street campus of Calcutta University.
According to various media outlets, accounts from the Left-leaning Democratic Students’ Organisation (DSO), the confrontation began when ABVP members disrupted the campus environment following the announcement of assembly election results.
DSO leaders claimed their members were targeted while trying to maintain order, accusing ABVP of vandalising banners and creating unrest.
In response, DSO activists reportedly fought back. Several students were injured, including one DSO member who suffered a head injury and required hospitalisation, along with multiple others who were assaulted.
ABVP denied the allegations, instead claiming its supporters were attacked while celebrating peacefully.
Authorities stated that no violence occurred in the campus itself, though police confirmed a brief scuffle near the university gate, which was quickly contained by security personnel.
