Outgoing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin recently urged the incoming government to continue welfare schemes introduced during the DMK’s tenure, saying they had benefited women, students, youth, government employees and marginalised communities.
In a social media post, Stalin said carrying forward the programmes would ensure that people continued to benefit and that the state’s development momentum was maintained.
“The new government should take my suggestion into consideration,” he said.
Stalin also welcomed statements from alliance partners that they would remain part of the Secular Progressive Alliance led by the DMK, even after extending support to actor-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), to help resolve the political uncertainty following a hung Assembly.
On Saturday, leaders of the Thol. Thirumavalavan-led Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Indian Union Muslim League announced unconditional support to TVK.
Stalin criticised the Congress for severing ties with the DMK after the election but thanked other alliance partners, including the CPI, CPI(M) and VCK, for standing by his party.
The political uncertainty ended after Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Chennai and staked claim to form the government with the support of 120 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly.
