Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday accused opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of levelling “baseless allegations” to divert attention from its alleged role in helping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win a Rajya Sabha seat.
Dismissing the PDP’s charge of “backdoor appointments” by his government, CM Omar, as per Kashmir News Service, asserted that outsourcing and backdoor recruitment were “poles apart”.
“Outsourcing is not a backdoor. What should I teach the PDP people? I am tired of teaching them. They don’t know Urdu. They don’t understand English. How should I explain to them in French?” the Chief Minister said.
“Backdoor appointment and outsourcing are two different things. Now these PDP people are putting baseless accusations on us to hide their sins,” he added, claiming that after failing to twist Urdu, their “backdoor” charge had also fallen flat.
CM Omar also questioned PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s silence over her party’s alleged understanding with the BJP.
“All this is being done to distract people from the fact that in the Rajya Sabha elections, it was proved through RTI that the PDP helped the BJP. Then the BJP won a seat in the Rajya Sabha. On that, Mehbooba Mufti is silent. Why didn’t they put an observer? Why didn’t they put an election agent?” he asked.
“She will not talk about that. But by putting baseless allegations, she wants to distract your attention,” the Chief Minister said.
Taking aim at a PDP leader’s claim of a transfer-for-money scandal, CM Omar said an officer was allegedly asked to pay for a transfer.
“And then the lady says in her speech that there was no inquiry because the minister is the treasurer of the National Conference. Madam, tell me which minister is the treasurer of the National Conference?” he said, clarifying that his party’s treasurer is Shami Oberoi, who holds no ministerial post in Jammu and Kashmir or at the Centre.
“When you have to lie, please do a little homework. Learn a little. After learning, lie. At least make it a little difficult for us to catch this lie. But you lie in such a way that within seconds it is known that you are lying,” CM Omar said.
