Jammu: Persistent monsoon rains continued to disrupt normal life across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, forcing the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar highway and the Doda-Kishtwar Road after fresh landslides and shooting stones made the routes unsafe for traffic.
Traffic Police said the Srinagar-Jammu highway has been closed at several vulnerable stretches due to landslides and continuous shooting stones, cutting off the Valley’s main road link with the rest of the country. The Doda-Kishtwar Road has also been shut following heavy rainfall that triggered hazardous conditions.
The ongoing wet spell has affected road connectivity in several districts, with authorities keeping a close watch on vulnerable areas amid the risk of further landslides and flash floods.
Officials said the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road and the Mughal Road remain open. However, commuters have been advised to travel only if necessary and to check the latest traffic updates before starting their journey, as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
Authorities said restoration work on the affected roads will begin only after the weather improves and the risk of fresh landslides decreases. Motorists have been urged to follow official advisories and avoid travelling on closed routes.
The closures come as the ongoing monsoon continues to trigger flash floods, landslides and damage to roads and public infrastructure across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
