Additional Deputy Commissioner directs the police and veterinary departments to take necessary action to capture dogs
Rajouri: At least 45 schools have been closed across five villages in Kotranka subdivision of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district following a spate of stray dog attacks that left seven people injured in two days.
The schools were closed on the directions of the Zonal Education Officer as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident involving students.
“We have closed 45 schools falling in five villages of Kotranka subdivision so that the students do not face any risk of being attacked by the dogs. We have also advised parents to take care of their children until the dogs are captured,” said Khursheed Begum, Zonal Education Officer, Kotranka.
The decision came after seven people were bitten by stray dogs in Kotranka and adjoining areas over the past two days, triggering concern among residents and prompting authorities to take precautionary measures. The attacks have raised concerns about the safety of children, particularly those who walk to and from schools in the affected villages.
Block Medical Officer, Kotranka, Vinod Bhat told Free Press Kashmir that all seven injured persons were above 17 years of age, including a 68-year-old elderly man.
“There were no bone injuries among the injured persons. All of them had muscular injuries and each person received proper treatment,” Bhat said.
According to Bhat all seven victims were provided with anti-rabies treatment.
The Rajouri administration has taken serious note of the incidents and initiated measures to contain the situation and prevent further attacks.
Tehsildar Kotranka, Syed Sahil Ali, said the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) has directed the concerned police and veterinary departments to take necessary action to capture the dogs involved in the attacks.
