One person was killed and 15 others were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on the Russian-occupied city of Enerhodar in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, Russian state media RIA Novosti reported.
The casualties were reported after drones struck the city, according to Russian authorities and state media.
The details about the circumstances of the attack, including the identities of those killed or injured and the extent of damage, were not immediately available. The reports could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian authorities did not immediately issue any statement on the alleged strike or the reported casualties.
Enerhodar has been under Russian control since March 2022 and is home to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power facility. The plant has remained at the centre of international concern during the war. Because of its proximity to fighting and repeated reports of drone and artillery attacks in the surrounding area.
The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency said the plant has faced disruptions to external power supplies because of military activity.
The reported strike comes amid continuing attacks between Russian and Ukrainian forces more than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
A senior Russian official says the country has been attacked by Ukrainian drones targeting areas currently held by Moscow. But Ukraine insists the attacks are part of its defensive actions during Russia’s ongoing invasion
