Israeli forces have closed entrances to the Bir Ayoub and Al-Bustan areas of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem ahead of a reported demolition operation, local Palestinian media reported.
Authorities were preparing to raze homes in the Palestinian neighbourhood and reported the closures while restricting movement in and out of the affected areas. The number of structures or people anticipated to be impacted was not immediately known.
The developments come amid renewed demolition activity in the Silwan area.
Al-Bustan has been threatened with demolition for years, with Israeli authorities claiming violations of planning and building laws. Palestinian residents and rights groups have said the demolition policy risks displacing families in the area.
Rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about the forced displacement in Silwan. Al-Haq said 16 Palestinian families were forcibly evicted in March 2026 in Batn al-Hawa, another part of Silwan.
The latest closures come as tensions remain high across East Jerusalem.
