India’s merchandise exports grew by over 15 percent in the first five months of the 2026-27 fiscal despite global economic uncertainties, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.
“Despite all the turmoil that the world is going through today … I am happy to share that our merchandise exports from India have grown between April and August, in the first five months of this fiscal, by upward of 15 percent,” Goyal told at the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance Women-Led Development Summit in New Delhi.
The Commerce Ministry is scheduled to publish official trade data for August on Sept. 15, so the April-August number is still an estimate until the government puts out the monthly figures.
Exports rose 17.04% to $173.78 billion in April-July, while imports jumped 19.27% to $292.38 billion, the latest available data showed.
India and other BRICS countries can significantly boost trade in goods and services, Goyal said. He called for more support for women-led businesses by improving access to credit, international markets and predictable business rules.
He also called upon BRICS governments to promote participation of women-owned enterprises in international trade fairs, exhibitions and business forums.
