The United Front of Afghanistan said Friday its forces killed a Taliban soldier in the southern province of Zabul, the latest in a string of attacks claimed by the armed opposition group, Tolonews Plus reported.
The targeted individual served with the Third Brigade of the Taliban’s 205th Al-Badr Army Corps. The claim could not be verified independently.
The United Front, led by former Afghan army commander Sami Sadat, announced in August it had launched military operations against the Taliban, reports say.
The group also claimed Wednesday to have killed the head of the Taliban’s Directorate of Encouraging Righteousness and Forbidding Wrongdoing in the eastern province of Khost.
The Taliban have not confirmed or denied the reported attacks and there was no immediate independent confirmation of the casualties.
The claims come at a time when the United Front is trying to portray itself as an armed opposition force to the Taliban rule. The group says its aim is to restore Afghanistan’s constitutional order and has called for resistance against the Taliban.
The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021 after the collapse of the internationally supported government and the withdrawal of US and the Allied Forces.
