An Israeli artillery shell hit the countryside near the Ain al-Shaara area north of Beit Jinn in Syria’s Damascus countryside, Syrian media reported Saturday, as Israeli forces continue to strike around the area with artillery.
The report did not immediately say if the shell caused casualties or property damage. The Israeli military did not immediately comment.
Syrian media reported that the reported incident came after Israeli artillery fire in agricultural areas west of Beit Jinn a day earlier. Three shells landed on the Tal Bat al-Warda area near the town, Syrian state-linked Al-Ikhbariya reported.
Syrian state media SANA has also reported previous Israeli shelling around the town of Beit Jinn. On Aug. 28, Israeli forces fired two shells at an area between Beit Jinn and Tel al-Ahmar, the shells landed in agricultural land, with no reports of injuries.
Beit Jinn is situated southwest of Damascus, near the foothills of Mount Hermon, not far from Syria’s frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The latest report could not immediately be independently verified.
Israel has increased military activity in southern Syria since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, saying its actions are needed for security. A UN commission recently warned some of the Israeli actions in Syria could be war crimes.
