Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported Israeli forces carried out a sweep near the town of Beit Yahoun in southern Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil district, backed by machine-gun fire.
The operation was carried out by Israeli forces around Beit Yahoun, a town close to the Israeli border, and military activity continued across southern Lebanon, the agency said. This is the latest of several Israeli operations in the Bint Jbeil area in recent months.
Israeli forces have previously carried out demolitions, explosions and gunfire in and around Beit Yahoun, according to Lebanese media reports.
The latest report gave no immediate details of casualties or damage. Additionally, there was no immediate statement from the Israeli military addressing the reported sweep.
Israeli forces have continued operations in parts of southern Lebanon despite a framework for a phased withdrawal and deployment of Lebanese forces. The area has been a flashpoint with continuing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Bint Jbeil district has been one of the most affected areas of the continuing Israeli military presence and operations in southern Lebanon.
