NC legislator raises issues of industry policy, reservation file, road works
Srinagar: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to expedite the new industrial policy and take steps to implement the journalists’ pension scheme.
Raising several issues in the Legislative Assembly, Sadiq said the government should move quickly on the industrial policy to encourage investment and create more employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also raised the issue of the pension scheme for journalists and urged the government to take steps to ensure that the long-pending demand is addressed.
Sadiq sought the withdrawal of cases registered against youth following protests after the killing of Ayatullah. He also demanded withdrawal of Public Safety Act (PSA) cases against children, saying young people should not be subjected to prolonged legal action for their participation in protests.
Citing Ladakh as an example, Sadiq said cases against children had been withdrawn there and questioned why similar relief could not be provided in Jammu and Kashmir.
“If they can do it, why can’t we?” he said.
The NC legislator also raised the issue of the reservation file, claiming that it was pending with the Lieutenant Governor. Referring to earlier remarks by the Leader of Opposition, Sadiq said the file concerning reservation for candidates from the general category should be returned and processed.
He also raised concerns over road widening works and the quality of macadamisation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sadiq urged the government to strengthen monitoring of road projects and ensure that works are completed according to prescribed standards, saying poor-quality construction leads to inconvenience for people and repeated expenditure. (KNS)
