US President Donald Trump and senior executives of major US technology and artificial intelligence companies signed a voluntary agreement to improve safety controls for the development and deployment of AI, Reuters reported.
The accord was described as “morally binding” by Trump after a White House meeting with technology leaders including Google’s Sundar Pichai, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI President Greg Brockman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
“It’s almost like a Constitution in a way, and the biggest people in the world signed that and I signed it as president,” Trump told reporters.
Under the deal, companies would be required to put in place internal safety controls, work with outside auditors and create board-level oversight to evaluate whether artificial intelligence (AI) systems are operating as intended. It’s also intended to prevent AI models from getting into computer systems in unintended ways.
It is a voluntary pact and contains no legal enforcement mechanisms. Trump said his administration was also considering creating an oversight committee of about 10 people to monitor AI development.
