Srinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary called for a strict ban on illegal mining in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in managing mineral resources to boost economic growth and public assets.
In a review meeting at the civil secretariat, Choudhary instructed officers to consider ecological impacts when allocating mineral blocks, ensuring the preservation of flora, fauna, and water quality. “The government is committed to responsible mining, balancing development with environmental care,” he stated.
Choudhary stressed enforcing the ban on illegal mining and emphasised environmental protection as a priority. He called for clear management of resources to foster economic growth while safeguarding the region’s natural assets.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary of Industries, the Director of Mining, MD of JK Minerals, and other senior officials.
