Srinagar: In a crackdown against drug trafficking, police in Anantnag and Shopian districts have attached properties worth crores under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Anantnag police attached a double-storey under-construction residential house belonging to Abdul Majeed Bhat, son-in-law of Mohammad Ahsan Ganaie, resident of Cheenigund, Srigufwara.
The property, spanning 1 Kanal of land and valued at Rs 1 crore, was linked to proceeds from drug trafficking and attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
According to the police, the accused is involved in a major narcotics case registered under FIR No. 68/2021 at Police Station Srigufwara, where a huge quantity of contraband substances was recovered.
In a separate operation, Shopian Police attached a double-storey residential house worth Rs22,17,827 and cash amounting to 14,52,100 belonging to drug peddlers Mudasir Ahmad Malik, Yawer Ahmad Malik, and Shahid Ul Islam Malik, sons of Gh Mohd Malik, residents of Melhura Zainapora.
The action was taken under Section 68-E read with 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985, as part of the district’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive.
The attachment was linked to FIR Nos. 54/2021 and 87/2023 of Police Station Zainapora and was carried out in the presence of a duly constituted police team and the Executive Magistrate to ensure legal compliance. Investigations revealed that the property was acquired through illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
