Blind murder case solved after being projected as natural death in Jammu, says police

Police Station Bahu Fort arrested the husband of the deceased, solving a case that had remained unreported for nearly a month.

Jammu: The Jammu Police, South Zone, have uncovered the murder of a woman initially reported as a natural death, a discovery that came a day after the visit of the Chairperson of the National Women’s Commission.

In a statement, the police said that acting swiftly on available evidence, Police Station Bahu Fort arrested the husband of the deceased, solving a case that had remained unreported for nearly a month.

On August 26, Sabina Sunuwar, daughter of Akbar Khan and resident of Dhol Wali Gali, Nai Basti, Jammu, lodged a complaint regarding the suspicious death of her sister, Simriti Sunwar, wife of Tej Pal Singh, resident of Mangnar, District Poonch, and A/P Trikuta Nagar Extension, Jammu.

The complainant alleged that on August 26, her brother-in-law took Simriti for medical treatment, but returned the next day with her dead body and conducted a hurried cremation at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground, without a postmortem or informing law enforcement. She further claimed that the deceased had been subjected to cruelty, bore suspicious ligature marks on her neck, and that there were financial disputes between the couple over a house purchase. Photographs supporting these allegations were submitted.

FIR No. 286/2025 U/S 103 BNS was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort. An investigation team, including the FSL team and a crime photographer, inspected the rented accommodation, collected evidence, and recorded witness statements.

Based on scientific examination and collected evidence, the accused, Tej Pal Singh, was arrested on September 27. Further investigation is underway.
