Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday said the ongoing wet spell is expected to continue till the forenoon of July 23, with widespread rain and thundershowers likely across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the weather advisory, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in the Kashmir division through July 23, while Reasi and Udhampur districts may continue to witness heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers, with isolated spells of extremely heavy rainfall, till Thursday morning.
The MeT has warned that the prevailing weather conditions could trigger landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods at vulnerable locations, particularly along the Pir Panjal Range in Jammu division and the higher reaches of Kashmir, including Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Shopian, Pir Ki Gali, Gulmarg, the Sonamarg-Zoji La axis, Bandipora-Razdan Pass and Kupwara-Sadhna Pass.
It has also cautioned that surface transport, including traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other major roads in the middle and higher reaches, may remain affected. A significant rise in water levels in rivers, streams and sub-basins, along with waterlogging and minor flooding in low-lying areas, is also likely.
The weather office has advised travellers and tourists to plan their journeys carefully and urged people in hilly areas to avoid landslide-prone slopes. Farmers have been asked to refrain from applying fertilisers and spraying chemicals until the weather improves.
The advisory also said daytime temperatures are likely to remain below normal during the ongoing wet spell.
