Srinagar: The Department of Information, Kashmir Division, has issued a show-cause notice to newspaper publications after detecting multiple defects and irregularities in attendance submissions made on the Attendance Portal for the period from January 1 to January 21, 2026.

According to the notice issued by the Directorate of Information, the attendance records submitted by various newspapers were examined, during which several discrepancies were observed.

These included uploading screenshots of PDF or e-copies of newspapers instead of photographs of physical copies, submission of wrongly dated photographs or e-copies, uploading newspaper material belonging to other publications, and non-compliance with prescribed guidelines for photographs and PDF submissions.

The notice states that these defects are in violation of the guidelines and instructions issued for proper maintenance and submission of attendance records on the portal. Publishers have been directed to show cause within two days from the date of issuance of the notice as to why appropriate action should not be initiated and why their attendance should not be denied or rejected for the period during which defects were found.

The department has further clarified that attendance will not be granted to newspapers with such defects until the same are rectified to the satisfaction of the competent authority. Publishers have been advised to immediately correct the shortcomings in the interest of compliance.

The notice also cautions that failure to submit a satisfactory response within the stipulated timeframe may compel the department to take appropriate action, including rejection of attendance claims. [KNT]
