Mirwaiz said this while addressing an Isteqbal-e-Ramazan conference in Budgam, attended by prominent ulema, imams and khateebs, including Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi and Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam.
A memorandum to this effect was also jointly adopted by the participating ulema. He concluded by urging religious scholars and imams to utilise this blessed month to inspire hope, resilience, unity and spiritual awakening among the people.
He said the blessed month of Ramazan presents a significant opportunity for religious scholars and preachers, as people — especially the youth — turn to mosques in large numbers seeking spiritual guidance and a deeper connection with faith. He emphasised that sermons during the month should focus on strengthening one’s relationship with Allah, character building, moral refinement and fostering unity within the Ummah.
Mirwaiz urged ulema to address pressing social concerns with wisdom and compassion, guiding society towards reform, responsibility and mutual respect. He noted that Ramazan is arriving at a time when the Muslim world faces serious challenges, referring to the continuing injustice in Palestine and difficult situations in Iran and Yemen, and described the suffering across regions as deeply distressing.
He also observed that Muslims in the country are passing through a sensitive period marked by rising communal polarisation and growing anxiety within sections of the community. Expressing concern over the profiling of mosques, he termed it unwarranted interference in religious matters and called for such actions to cease, stressing that religious institutions must be allowed to function freely and with dignity.
