Srinagar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast continued erratic weather across Jammu and Kashmir till March 20, with widespread rain and snowfall expected in several areas.

According to the forecast, March 17 will see partly cloudy skies with brief spells of light rain or snow in higher reaches at isolated places.

A more active western disturbance is likely to impact the region between March 18 and 20, bringing generally cloudy conditions and intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall at many places. Some higher reaches of the Chenab Valley and south Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall during this period.

Weather conditions are expected to improve from March 21 to 25, with generally dry weather across the Union Territory. However, another spell of cloudy weather with light rain or snowfall in higher reaches is likely between March 26 and 28.

The MeT Centre has issued an advisory for travellers and transporters, urging caution while moving through higher reaches and key mountain passes between March 18 and 20. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph and isolated hailstorms during this period.

Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural operations from March 18 to 20 in view of the expected weather conditions.
