Pakistan has floated a ceasefire proposal to Iran and the United States, but Tehran is reviewing the plan while making it clear it will not accept a temporary truce that leaves the risk of renewed conflict, according to Reuters.

Fighting intensified as the war entered its sixth week on Monday, with US and Israeli forces carrying out heavy strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, while Iran launched attacks targeting Haifa.

US President Donald Trump warned that “all hell will rain down” on Iran if a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is not reached by Tuesday. Tehran has rejected the ultimatum.

Amid growing tensions, the foreign ministers of China and Russia called for an immediate halt to hostilities, saying a ceasefire remains the “fundamental way” to reopen the crucial waterway.

Meanwhile, oil prices rose at the start of trading on Monday following the Easter holiday, as concerns deepened over supply disruptions after Trump stepped up pressure on Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts ongoing even as military escalation continues across the region.
