Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, recalling his interest in promoting peace in South Asia through engagement and dialogue.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said he had the privilege of meeting Sheikh Hamad during an OIC meeting in Doha, where the former Emir was “gracious and generous” in extending hospitality.
“He also took a keen interest in peace in South Asia and favoured engagement and dialogue as the way forward,” Mirwaiz said.
Offering condolences, Mirwaiz prayed that Allah grant the late Sheikh Hamad Jannah and give patience and solace to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his family, and the people of Qatar.
