China on Thursday dismissed Nepal’s accusation that a collapsing “geological disaster dam” on its side of the border triggered the disastrous floods in Nepal as “fake news,” The Times of India reported.

“An earthquake or quake-like glacial collapse occurred on the Nepali side on Aug. 26 that resulted in huge mudslides, leading to some deaths and disappearances on both sides of the Gyirong-Rasuwagadhi border,” the Chinese Embassy in Nepal has stated. “Accusation helps nothing,” and “cooperation saves lives,” the Embassy said in the statement.

The floods have swept away houses, roads and bridges along the Nepal-China border. Recent reports say the toll rose to 160, with over 1,300 missing in Nepal as well as in Tibet.
