Leh: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Ladakh has seized a heroin-like substance from an air passenger at Leh Airport and arrested one person in connection with the recovery, Director General of Police (DGP) Ladakh said on Friday.
In a post on X, the DGP said that 3.5 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from Mohd Hussain, a resident of Diskit, at Leh Airport.
In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 19/2026 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, while further investigation is underway.
The DGP said the ANTF had detected a method of transporting narcotics through unsuspecting air passengers and appealed to the public not to carry parcels or packages handed over by strangers.
The latest recovery comes amid intensified efforts by Ladakh Police to curb narcotics trafficking and drug abuse in the Union Territory.
In a similar incident on October 19, Leh Police arrested a 21-year-old passenger at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport after recovering 21.02 grams of heroin from his carry bag. The accused had arrived from Delhi, and police initiated an investigation into the suspected source and possible supply links.
The administration has also stepped up coordinated enforcement and preventive measures through the ANTF and the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) mechanism.
An official review meeting in August focused on drug-related cases, suspected supply routes, intelligence gathering, highway checking and measures to prevent narcotics from entering the region.
Earlier, the Ladakh administration had reported 298 new cases of drug abuse in recent months, highlighting the growing concern over narcotics consumption and trafficking in the Union Territory.
The authorities have repeatedly called for public cooperation, awareness and vigilance to prevent drug trafficking and protect vulnerable sections, particularly the youth.
