Srinagar: In a raid on the residence of Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesperson, Shahid ul Islam, the sleuths of National Investigation Agency (NIA) found and took along documents pertaining to the bank loan papers of Shahid’s house, car documents, cell phones of the family members, insurance policy papers and photographs of his Pakistan visit.

Shahid was one among the Hurriyat Conference leaders who visited Pakistan in early 2000.

The NIA has started raiding houses of resistance leaders and businessmen of Kashmir after they filed a case in alleged Hawala money from Pakistan.

Condemning the arbitrary and coercive act of raiding the house of its Media Adviser, Shahid-ul-Islam, and others pro-freedom activists and some members of business community by the NIA, the Hurriyat Conference (M) termed it a bid to ‘harass and scare’ the resistance leadership from representing the “people’s sentiments and their just political struggle”.

Giving details of the raid, a statement of the Hurriyat Conference amalgam said, “at around 6 am (on June 03, 2017), a team from NIA came to Shahid’s house with a large contingent of police and paramilitary forces and cordoned his house sealing all entry and exit points to the road leading to his house creating a fear psychosis in the area as if Shahid was a criminal not a political activist.”

“His family including his little daughters and wife were confined to one room while the house was thoroughly searched and all the belongings were rummaged through till late in the evening,” the statement said. “As expected nothing was found in the house.”

“The NIA officials took with them documents pertaining to the bank loan papers of Shahid’s house and car his and his family members cell phones, insurance policy papers and photographs from the time of APHC visit of Pakistan in 2004,” it informed.

“People of Kashmir are mature enough to understand that such arm twisting tactics to scare the leadership and malign them by the Government of India and their local stooges are actually attempts to take away the focus from the actual problem in Kashmir and distort the narrative of the Kashmir dispute,” the Mirwiaz led Hurriyat Conference said.

“The tremendous sacrifices offered by the people of Kashmir for their just cause are the guiding light for the leadership who know they will be subject to all kinds of harassment and vilification at the hands of those who occupy our land,” the statement.

The leadership, it asserted, “is ready to face the challenge.”

As teh NIA started its raids yesterday searching at least fourteen places in Kashmir and eight other places in Delhi and NCR, the NIA sleuths raided two places in Srinagar on Sunday and one such place in Jammu.
