Srinagar: Condemning the use of force and continuous atrocities on masses and traders in Anantnag town, Er Rasheed has brought the matter in the notice of Chief Secretary seeking stern action against those who are misusing their authority to curb the rights of masses.

Rasheed is a two-time lawmaker representing Langate assembly constituency in J&K Legislature.

B B Vyas is the Chief Secretary of the J&K state.

In a statement issued this evening, Rasheed said, “cops have started reign of terror in the entire Anantnag town and treat themselves beyond accountability.”

“It is most condemning that heavy shelling led to the damage of nearly one dozen shops and other establishments,” Rasheed said.

The traders whose businesses are based in Anantnag town on Saturday alleged highhandedness by armed forces and said that at least twenty eight houses and shops were destroyed in a massive blaze which lit on late Friday evening.

“Police in Anantnag Town is always in search of finding excuses to justify its inhuman acts and is deriving pleasure from torturing masses and disgracing the elders of the town,” the MLA Langate added.

Alleging conspiracy, the traders had said that the untimely action by police resulted in huge losses. However, police have refuted the allegation.

They demanded immediate attention of Chief Minister who represents Anantnag constituency in J&K Legislative assembly.

The statement said that Rasheed informed the Chief Secretary that while the whole market is on strike since yesterday, no responsible authority from the government has approached the traders to find some amicable solution to the burning issues.

He urged upon Chief Secretary not to take the trade body of Anantnag and other representatives for granted.

“Chief Secretary assured Er Rasheed of looking into the matter and taking up immediate measures to address their grievances,” the statement issued by the MLA’s party AIP said.
