Over-ground worker who led Jaish militants to BSF camp identified: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: An alleged Over Ground Worker (OGW) has been identified who led suspected Jaish-e-Muhammad militants to a BSF camp to carry out the Fidayeen attack that took place early this morning in Humhama, said Inspector General of Police, Munir Khan.

Three Fidayeen militants, and one BSF soldier were killed, and three other Indian Armed Forces personnel were injured in an attack at a Border Security Force (BSF) camp near the Srinagar airport earlier today.

An overground worker is someone who provides data, logistics, and information to the militants to eventually carry out an operation, sometimes an attack.

“We have identified the OGW, rather a militant, who helped the Jaish militants reach the spot where they carried out the attack,” Khan said addressing a presser at Humhama in Srinagar.

Three Jaish militants and a BSF officer were killed while three other Indian Armed forces personnel suffered injuries after suspected Jaish militants of “Afzal Guru Squad” stormed a BSF camp on the high security airport road on Tuesday.

Khan further added that Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant outfit was a threat due to their ability of carrying out “surprise Fidayeen attacks”.

Jaish-e-Mohammed, literally “The Army of Muhammad”, abbreviated as JeM is a Deobandi militant group active in Kashmir. The group’s primary motive is to ‘separate’ Kashmir from India and merge it into Pakistan. It has carried out several attacks primarily in Jammu and Kashmir. It also maintained close relations with Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and continues to be allied to them.

“We will have to deal with them (JeM) separately,” said Khan, adding, “such attacks will continue to happen as long as militancy and militants are there in Kashmir.”
