Bemina braid chopping: Suspects fled as people beat them, facilitated their escape, claims police

Srinagar: Some people in Nundresh Colony of Bemina in the jurisdiction of police station Batamaloo today afternoon nabbed two suspected braid choppers.

According to a police statement, the people of the area had assembled in large numbers beating up the accused.

“After receiving information of the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately rushed to spot to ‘arrest the suspects but people assembled in large number there and instead of handing over custody of culprits to the police, after beating them facilitated the escape of suspects from the spot,” the statement said.

In this regard, case FIR 158/2017 was registered in Police Station Batamaloo & further investigation taken up.

Srinagar police has appealed general public to immediately bring all such incidents in notice of police & all suspects should b handed over to the concerned police for proper investigation of the alleged incidents.

Earlier in the day, braid-chopping incidents were reported from Nowgam and Khanyar.

In Nowgam, the area which lies on the outskirts of Srinagar, the summer capital of the Jammu and Kashmir, erupted in massive protests as panic-stricken locals took to the street in protest against the attack.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim (identity withheld) told FreePressKashmir, “I was all alone in my house when they (braid choppers) came. They were two in number and were wearing masks. One stood at the threshold of the room while the other came inside.”
