Srinagar: Two incidents of braid chopping were reported from Budgam district of the valley on Saturday.
In one of the incidents, braid of a 21-year old girl was cut for the second time in her house in Beerwah.
In another incident, an aged woman became the victim hen her braid was chopped of in her home in Gopalpora in Chadoora area.
“Around 10 am some unknown persons attacked her in her house and chopped off her braid, locals alleged.
The victim, wife of Abdul Rashid had recently returned from Hajj pilgrimage, the locals informed.
In Beerwah, the 21-year old victim was attacked for the second time.
A local daily Greater Kashmir reported that unknown attackers strangulated her and chopped off her hair.
She was rushed to Sub District Hospital Beerwah where from she was referred to a hospital in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, people took to streets to protest the mysterious braid chopping incidents in Wathoora. They blocked Chadoora – Srinagar road, hampering the vehicular movement.
A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in the town.
In total, 18 such incidents have been reported from different areas of the district since September 27.
In the past two months, braids of over 100 women have been chopped off. Police has been clueless as they have not been able to nab anyone till date. Police has also said that the local populace doesn’t cooperate with them and due to lack of evidence they cannot nab ‘innocents’.
On Wednesday the State Women’s commission also said that the Special Investigation Team constituted by the police has not shared details of even a single case with them.
The Commissioner, Nayeema Mahjoor added that she is not going to buy the mass hysteria theory without proof.
