Chandigarh: Another BJP leader has joined the bandwagon of those who are making controversial statements regarding the Taj Mahal, the 17 century mausoleum.
Senior Haryana Minister Anil Vij on Friday tweeted that the monument is a ‘beautiful cemetery’.
“Taj Mahal ek khoobsurat kabristan hai,” Vij tweeted on Friday.
Vij, who is the cabinet Minister for Health and Sports in the BJP government in Haryana, is known for making controversial tweets and statements.
Earlier BJP lawmaker Sangeet Som said that that the Taj Mahal is a blot on Indian Culture. While distorting history, Som said that it’s builder Emperor Shah Jahan imprisoned his father and wanted to wipe out Hindus from India.
In a bid to do some damage control, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is set to visit the place on October 26.
However he too created controversy when he said that the Taj was built by the blood and sweat of Indian labourers.
Uttar Pradesh government has removed the wonder of the world and a UNESCO heritage site from the must visit tourist locations of the state.
