In the encounter that was raging in Chandergeer, Jamia Mohalla in Hajin, at least five militants were reported killed.
Police told the news magazine Kashmir Life that army men have also received bullets as a civilian was hit by a bullet in his leg.
“The operation was launched after police and army received information about the presence of a group of militants,” a senior police officer was quoted saying. “So far we have confirmed reports about two militants actually having been killed, there could be more.”
However, another officer who is directly involved with the supervision of the counter insurgency operations said five militants are already killed and they expect one more killing.
Police said the operation is still going on. He said they are in the process of collecting more details about the civilian. All the injured have been evacuated to the hospital.
