Rahul sat in the temple as if he was offering Namaz, says Adityanath

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath while taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi said that the ‘poor fellow sat in the temple as if he was offering Namaz (Muslim prayer).

He added that the priest of Kashi Vishwanath temple had to tell him that it’s not a mosque.

“Uss bechare ko yeh tak nahi maloom hai ki mandir mein kaise baitha jata hai. [Poor fellow does not even know how to sit properly in a temple.) When he visited the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir [in Varanasi], he sat like he was performing namaz. The priest had to tell him that this is a temple, not a mosque,” Adityanath said at an ABP News show.

Before becoming the CM of Uttar Pradesh, Aditiyanath, was a full time Hindu cleric at the Gorakhpur Mutt and was always in the news due to his hate speeches against the minorities, especially Muslims.

Adityanath’s comment is a fresh attack on Rahul Gandhi over his temple visits, seen by the BJP as an attempt to the woo Hindu votes. According to reports, BJP leaders had made Rahul’s temple visits in poll-bound Gujarat the target of a consistent attack in the last one month.

BJP general secretary-in-charge of Gujarat, Bhupender Yadav, had targeted Gandhi by saying, “Star campaigner of Congress Rahul Gandhi is visiting temples & offering prayers which is good as it is a part of Indian culture. However, this must come naturally to a person & not only during elections.”

Adityanath termed Rahul’s temple visits a pretence. Saying that it was under the UPA government that an affidavit was filed in the Supreme Court saying that gods Rama and Krishna were imaginary.
