Shutdown call: Heavy deployment of forces in Downtown, Rail services suspended

Srinagar: In order to prevent any protests after the Joint Resistance Leadership called for a complete shutdown on Monday, authorities have imposed strict restrictions in the city.

Rail services between South and North Kashmir have also been halted as a ‘precautionary measure’.

There is heavy deployment of forces in the Downtown area of the city and other parts of the city too.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Sunday in wake of the strike call. Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani remains under house arrest since 7 odd years.

“Restrictions under section 144 CrPc have been imposed in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M.R.Gunj and Safa Kadal. While partial restrictions have also been imposed in Maisuma and Kralkhud,” the police said.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) have called for a valley-wide protest shutdown to express solidarity with local prisoners lodged in different jails.
