Iran urges India, Pakistan to show restraint in Kashmir after Shopian killings

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has expressed regret at the loss of life in recent tensions in Kashmir, urging both sides of the conflict to show restraint.

On Monday, Bahram Ghasemi called for easing tensions in Kashmir saying “the Islamic Republic of Iran has been advocating any actions that are in the best interests of the people of Kashmir, and is ready to take effective steps to reduce tension at the request of the parties.”

Thirteen militants were killed in the twin operations at Dragad and Kachdor villages of Shopian.

One militant Rouf Bashir Khanday was killed and his associate Imran Rashid was arrested during an overnight gunfight at Brunty Dialgam in Anantnag district.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik on Sunday called for a Kashmir-wide shutdown. The Shutdown call is for Sunday and Monday.

Four civilian youth were killed, while a dozen others were injured near the gunfight sites.
