Activists, researchers and students hold interaction on the issue of child sexual abuse

Srinagar: On the issues of Child sexual abuse, The School of Law, University of Kashmir organised an interaction programme titled ‘From Darkness to Light: Issues and Challenges of Child Sex Abuse in Kashmir’ on 11th April, 2018. The event saw participation from various experts and scholars working on Child Sexual Abuse in Kashmir.

Prof. Mohammad Hussain, Head and Dean, School of Law made the initial comments and welcomed the participants. He also expressed hope that such programmes would generate awareness about the menace of child sex abuse in Kashmir.

The inaugural session included presentations by Musab Omer, a social activist, who spoke about his campaign on child sexual abuse in Kashmir, Ufra Mir, a peace psychologist, who spoke about the need for a multi-dimensional approach to understanding and dealing with victims of child sexual abuse.

Sameena Mohi-ud-din, research scholar, spoke about her research on the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and adjustment issues of victims of child sex abuse. This was followed by a panel discussion on child sexual abuse which involved experts from discipline of law, social work and women studies.

Prof. Ayub Dar, Prof. F.A. Wani, Dr. Roshan Ara, Dr. Shazia and Dr. Aadil Bashir were some of the notable speakers. The sessions were moderated by Hakim Yasir Abbas, Asst. Prof., School of law.

The programme was facilitated by Dr. S.A. Bhat and Mir Mubashir Altaf, Asst. Professors, School of Law.
