Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a mild thunderstorm and dust storm warning for the next 48 hours in New Delhi and its neighbouring states.
“Till tomorrow there’s a possibility of a dust storm and thunderstorm in Delhi,” said IMD official, Devendra Pradhan while talking to ANI.
Pradhan also said that in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh a mild thunderstorm warning has been issued, and in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh a dust storm has been issued.
The Met office said in association with the passing western disturbances (WD), a cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and neighborhood is likely to play a role in the thunderstorm activity and bring rain in the plains of north India.
At least 124 people died and over 300 were injured in thunderstorms and lightning that hit five states last week. Nearly 75 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh alone.
In Rajasthan, over 36 were killed and about 100 people were injured as winds over 100 kmph hit the region around 7 pm on Wednesday.
A separate ward has been opened there and a dedicated team of doctors has been deputed.
Agra has witnessed two devastating storms in 20 days. More than 1,400 villages continue to remain without power supply, an official said.
Trains were still running late. Historical buildings, including the Taj Mahal have suffered extensive damages. Two wooden doors of the Taj minarets have been damaged and several trees in the mausoleum were uprooted.
