President of India visits Siachen, interacts with troops

Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India on Thursday visited the world’s highest battle field, the Siachen Glacier.

The President is also the Commander of the Armed Forces.

He was accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat and Lt Gen D Anbu, GOC-in-C, Northern Command, said PRO Defence, Col Rajesh Kalia, in a statement.

“After arriving at Thoise airfield, the Hon’ble President flew to Siachen and undertook an aerial survey of the Glacier. He also interacted with troops at one of the forward posts of Siachen Glacier,” said Col Kalia.

Earlier, Kovind visited the Siachen Base Camp where he laid a wreath at the ‘Siachen War Memorial’ in memory of the slain soldiers.
“Subsequently, he addressed troops at the Siachen Base Camp where he praised the efforts of the soldiers deployed in harsh climatic conditions assuring them that their interests are paramount in the heart of the nation,” said Kalia.
